Cairns is in the midst of a commercial property surge that is already reshaping the local employment landscape. Major projects driving employment

Hutchinson Builders is set to begin work on the $400 million, 17-storey Nova 8 residential and commercial tower, a project that the developer says will require up to 1,000 workers. Meanwhile, the Ghassan Aboud Group is pushing ahead with three hotel developments: a $120 million five-star Rydges Tradewinds redevelopment (300 rooms), an $80 million inner-city hotel (200 rooms), and a $100 million project at the Bellview Motel site. On the retail front, Lendlease officially opened Cairns Central's $60 million redevelopment, which includes a larger 7,500m² Myer store and has already created 125 ongoing retail jobs. In Trinity Beach, a new $60 million Woolworths shopping centre development has started construction, expected to open next year with 180 ongoing jobs across 4,020sqm of retail space.
